History of Riverside Art ltd.
50’S&60’S
Our Story began back in 1959. Robert LeComte Sr. began a floor covering business in Somerset Massachusetts called Riverside Floor Covering. Between contractor’s word of mouth, and trade with other family members with businesses in other fields, the early 60’s brought on change as Riverside began carrying house paint and painting supplies. In the mid 60’s, as his eldest daughter, Louise, went on to art school, Bob recognized a need for artists supplies for his daughter and other art students. The birth of Riverside Art Shop occurred with a $1,000 investment and a two box delivery to the small garage location off Riverside Ave. in Somerset. In a short time Bob Jr., Louise, and Paul would join their dad, and a new era of growth and customer care would begin.
70’S
During the 70’s Riverside Art Shop grew and grew as an Art Materials source. During this time prints, posters, and fine custom framing were introduced to our growing mix art oriented products and services. Artists from Fall River and Somerset regarded Riverside Art Shop as their little secret art shop. A local place that knew what real artists used and needed, and could help young aspiring artists find their way into the artist world. That has never changed.
80’s, 90`s

With a growing list of commercial clients in Providence, Boston, and Newport finding out about the little shop in Somerset, it was necessary to find a new, larger location to accommodate the needs of a growing customer base.
